Every summer, Spring Creek Community Center hosts a free Annual School Reunion for alumni of Spring Creek School — the very building that houses our community center today. There is no cost to attendees; it's SCCC's way of honoring the generations of students, teachers, and families who called this rock schoolhouse home.

Spring Creek School opened in 1929 with 330 students, no cafeteria, and no electricity, built from stone donated by local farm families. It served as the true center of community life for decades — hosting socials, dances, cakewalks, and music once electricity arrived in 1949. The last high school class graduated in 1974 after a consolidated county high school opened, but K-8 students continued attending Spring Creek School until 1989, when shrinking enrollment led Madison County to close its doors.

The building sat empty for a decade until 1999, when a group of dedicated community members formed a nonprofit to save it — the very organization now known as Spring Creek Community Center. Since then, volunteers have renovated three-quarters of the historic building through fundraising, donations, and grants.

The Annual School Reunion keeps that legacy alive, bringing former students and staff back together each summer to swap stories, reconnect, and see how far their old school has come.
