A community commercial kitchen — known as the Value Added Kitchen — is one of the most exciting features planned as part of SCORED, the Spring Creek Office for Rural Economic Development. This shared-use kitchen space will give local food entrepreneurs in Madison County a licensed, affordable place to can, bake, prepare, and package products for sale, without the cost of building a commercial kitchen of their own.

SCORED is the result of a 25-year community goal to finish renovating the historic Spring Creek School building. In 2024, after years of raising funds through donations, fundraising events, rental income, and grants, SCCC hired an architect to design the space — which includes five rentable offices, a business center, a classroom/boardroom, and the Value Added Kitchen.

For a rural township with limited economic infrastructure, a shared commercial kitchen opens real doors: home cooks can start small food businesses, farmers can process value-added products from their harvest, and local entrepreneurs get a launchpad without the overhead of commercial real estate.
